Threshers wrap up non-conference play in McPherson Classic

The Bethel College Softball team took part in the McPherson Classic where they played four games over a two day span. The Threshers dropped both contest on the opening day as they fell to Midland 8-0 and Morningside 11-1. Bethel opened day two with a 4-2 victory over Presentation before falling to Evangel 

GAME 1, L vs Midland 8-0

After a scoreless first two innings for both squads, the Warriors struck for two runs in the bottom of the third. They were able to add to their lead in the fourth as they pushed three more runs across. Midland got a run in the fifth and two in the sixth to put the run rule into effect.

GAME 2, L vs Morningside 11-1

The Mustangs got the scoring started early as they pushed across three runs in the top of the first. Bethel was able to get a run back an inning and half later when Dakota Piovesan doubled to right center scoring Ella Caudill. After that it was all Morningside as they pushed across two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and three in the sixth.

GAME 3, W vs Presentation 3-2

The Saints scored two runs in the top of the second inning and Bethel answered back right away. In the bottom half the Threshers were able to load the bases up for Olivia Nava who earned a walk and an RBI. Two innings later Cynae Wiley ripped a triple to center field that brought in Ashleigh Bodine and Piovesan giving BC the 3-2 lead.

GAME 4, L vs Evangel 11-5

The Valor took the lead early as they pushed two runs across in the bottom half of the first inning. Bethel answered in the top half of the second when Ella Caudill and Karlie Stephens scored on a Dakota Piovesan single. Evangel got both runs back in the bottom half and scored four in the third to take the 8-2 lead. The Threshers responded with three runs in the fourth to cut the lead down to three, 8-5. Evangel then scored five unanswered runs between the next two and a half innings to enforce the run rule.
