Pouch running for seat on Harvey County Commission

Kevin Pouch is seeking the Republican nomination to represent District 3 for a four-year term. The primary election will be held on August 6.

Per Harvey County Elections, Pouch is running in the GOP primary against incumbent Don Schroeder.

On his campaign website, Pouch said he plans to improve county department efficiency, maintain or reduce the tax burden on residents by offsetting increasing property values with mill levy adjustments, support and strengthen public safety by addressing the Sheriff's Department's personnel, equipment, and technology needs, and encourage economic development by increasing taxable properties and residential developments as well as expanding the skilled workforce in Harvey County.

Pouch's campaign website reveals that he Pouch attended Colby Junior College and Emporia State University, and he received a nursing diploma from the Stormont-Vail School of Nursing. He worked for 18 years as a registered nurse before shifting to a career as an oncology sales specialist for 20 years. Pouch is on the Harvey County Citizen Advisory Board, supports the local Young Life Ministry, and is the co-owner of The Newton Rebels Summer Collegiate Baseball team.

In a press release, R.E.D. PAC — a political action committee focused on rural economic development — presented Pouch as a candidate who "has demonstrated a robust understanding of the issues" in his district and has "a clear commitment to principles that ensure economic stability, promote transparency and accountability in governance, and safeguard the community."

R.E.D. PAC Chief Strategist Charlie Kolean endorsed Pouch, praising his "unparalleled dedication to protecting private property rights and implementing practical solutions to enhance community living" and predicting that his "leadership will be instrumental in ensuring that Kansas communities thrive in an environment where freedom, security, and prosperity are the top priorities."

The Harvey County Commission comprises three members, each representing one district. Commissioners are elected to four-year terms.

Per their webpage, commissioners hold weekly meetings that are open to the public. At these meetings, commissioners hold votes on and direct policy decisions, determine Harvey County's annual budget, and discuss long-term plans for the County.
