Lance Gormley is seeking the Republican nomination to represent District 2 for a four-year term. The primary election will be held on August 6.
According to Harvey County Elections, Gormley is running in the GOP primary against Terry Scott.
In an April 24 post on his campaign's Facebook page, Gormley said his decision to pursue an undergraduate political science degree and then a Master of Public Administration degree "has given me the ability to 'stay in my lane' when hoping to affect change, but also helps when educating the public as to where their efforts would be best spent when trying to advocate on behalf of one policy issue or another."
Gormley holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Wichita State University. He was a welder-assembler at Agco Corporation and a welder-fabricator at Excel Industries. Additionally, he worked as a general manager at Dollar General and was an instructor at Wichita State. Currently, he is the owner and CEO of Harvey County Talk.
In a press release, R.E.D. PAC — a political action committee focused on rural economic development — presented Gormley as a candidate who "has demonstrated a robust understanding of the issues" in his district and has "a clear commitment to principles that ensure economic stability, promote transparency and accountability in governance, and safeguard the community."
R.E.D. PAC Chief Strategist Charlie Kolean endorsed Gormley, praising his "unparalleled dedication to protecting private property rights and implementing practical solutions to enhance community living" and predicting that his "leadership will be instrumental in ensuring that Kansas communities thrive in an environment where freedom, security, and prosperity are the top priorities."
The Harvey County Commission comprises three members, each representing one district. Commissioners are elected to four-year terms.
Per their webpage, commissioners hold weekly meetings that are open to the public. At these meetings, commissioners hold votes on and direct policy decisions, determine Harvey County's annual budget, and discuss long-term plans for the County.
