Women's Basketball picks up first win of 2023 with a 36 point victory over Southwestern
The Bethel College Women's Basketball team got back into the win column following a three game skid before the holiday break with 36 point 81-45 victory over Southwestern.
The first quarter was all Jaycee Freshour and Troi Lucas as the pair combined for 20 of Bethel's 24 points in the opening 10 minutes of play. Lucas, in her first game of the season scored nine of her 12 points in the opening frame.
Bethel held the Moundbuilders to just seven points on 14.3% shooting from the floor in the second quarter while their shooting percentage fell in the frame as well after a blistering hot opening quarter.
After taking a 37-23 lead into the intermission, the Threshers put up their second 24 point quarter of the contest. This time riding the hot hands of Josie Stupey and Jasmine Peete who had six points a piece in the frame.
In the fourth, Bethel continued to pour it on as they finished with their third 20 point quarter of the contest. Stupey and Peete continued their dominance in the final period as Bethel pulled away for the 36 point victory. This point spread matches the largest conference victory for the Threshers in Derrick Pringle Jr.'s short tenure as they also beat Southwestern by 36 in Winfield last season.
