Washburn University will host the annual Russell Jacobs Lecture in Philosophy Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker Dr. Agnes Callard’s topic is “What is Free Speech?” The event is sponsored by the Washburn philosophy & religious studies department. This event is free and open to the public.

Callard is an associate professor of philosophy at the University of Chicago. She is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and author of the book, “Aspiration: The agency of becoming.” She is a regular columnist for “The Point Magazine,” and a frequent contributor to the “New York Times.”
Emeritus philosophy and religious studies faculty member Russell Jacobs established this lecture upon his retirement. The purpose of the Russell Jacobs Lecture in Philosophy is to bring outstanding philosophers and discussion of their work to Washburn University.
