Cowan receives 4 Under 40 honor

Skip Cowan, the community services coordinator for the Harvey County Health Department and Emergency Management, was the recipient of one of Emerge: Harvey County's 4 Under 40 awards.

Emerge held its awards banquet Aug. 11 at the Grace Hill Winery in Whitewater, Kan. Nominations were submitted to Emerge in June. Eight semifinalists were selected and invited to attend and be recognized at the awards banquet, with four receiving the 4 Under 40 honor at the reception.

Cowan serves dual roles for the County. His Emergency Management functions help with emergency preparedness and response efforts. At the Health Department, he leads disease investigations, including through the COVID-19 pandemic. His recent work helped distribute personal protective equipment to health providers and first responders, as well as organized and facilitated COVID-19 vaccine distributions.

"I genuinely feel honored several employees from three different departments considered me for the nomination," Cowan said. "I work with a lot of great people who are under the age of 40 who I feel are equally as deserving of the nomination. I am very fortunate."

Cowan has worked for Harvey County for 12 years. He is also involved in several local organizations through his role, and is an avid volunteer.

Emerge: Harvey County is an organization aimed toward supporting emerging leaders as they pursue opportunities to encourage growth and development in Harvey County.
